We're delighted  to let you know that Gavin Buckland's Money Can't Buy Us Love, which sold out in hardback, is now available as a paperback edition.

In 1960, when wealthy Littlewoods owner John Moores took control of Everton Football Club, he unleashed a transformation that would send shockwaves through English football. This wasn't simply another wealthy benefactor - Moores brought a naked ambition and ruthless approach to success that had never been seen before in the previously stagnant world of the English game.

Buckland, Everton's official statistician and founding member of Toffeeopolis, chronicles how Moores and manager Harry Catterick turned Everton into the so-called 'Mersey Millionaires' and took them to the summit of English football. Set against the backdrop of the cultural upheaval of 1960s Britain, the book provides a forensic character study of both men whilst delving deep into the club's archives to reveal the full story of a fruitful but turbulent decade.

The narrative takes in the allegations of doping during the 1962/63 campaign, the devastating 1964 match-fixing scandal that ended Tony Kay's career, and the shock sale of World Cup winner Alan Ball. Throughout, Buckland demonstrates how strong personalities can drive a team to greatness but also plant the seeds of its ultimate downfall.

This is the first volume of Buckland's trilogy covering John Moores' three-decade ownership of Everton, offering fascinating insight into how the modern game was shaped by ambition, money and the complex characters who wielded both.
